The barrel vault truss system on the St. Mary's City Chapel was an interesting challenge for our Blue Ridge Timber Frame designers. Each truss was assembled from 15 pieces requiring 23 matching joints. Even before the parts were cut, the designer had to determine the order of assembly so that the parts would slip together easily. Once the joints were pegged, the whole truss had to maintain its shape while being lifted onto the brick walls of the chapel..
Located in Tuxedo, NC this 7000 Sqft. frame is crafted from F.O.H.C Douglas Fir inside and Cypress outside. Our frame features two craftsman style hammer beam trusses in the Great Room and a three story "look-out tower".
Built on an extremely steep lot near Asheville, this home features a full daylight basement and below the garage's suspended slab a generous area that the homeowner will outfit as a shop to pursue his interests in woodworking. An interest that he expressed by personally handcrafting one of the timbers in this frame.
The hand carved sentiment (taken from the clients' wedding song) is one example of this timber frame's exemplary attention to detail. The gorgeous great room with chamfered timber edges, custom stain, curved braces and pendant details is a focal point with a view… a view that on a clear day goes on forever.
